- GULER SABANCI: “GLOBAL CRISIS WILL HAVE BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE EFFECTS”
Sabanci Holding Chairperson Guler Sabanci was a live broadcast guest of BBC World at Davos, where she visited to attend the World Economic Forum. Guler Sabanci attended “World Business Report,” to answer questions of Tanya Beckett.
Presenter Tanya Beckett introduced Sabanci Holding Chairperson Guler Sabanci as “one of the leading names in the Turkish business life, and the most powerful businesswoman in Turkey.”
Guler Sabanci answered the question about the effects of the current global economic clutter on the Turkish economy as follows: “Turkey is a part of the global economy. Therefore it will be affected by the current situation of the world. We shall see the extent of such effect in coming months. Such effect will not be a direct one, but indirect, depending on the stagnation being experienced in the world. Because this condition will affect the expectations worldwide, and the global liquidity. This wave will have both positive and negative consequences. We can show the drop in interest rates as the positive effect. The current deficit of Turkey will be benefited therefrom. Besides that, we can also expect a positive effect in the commodities market. The high demand in this market used to bring high prices. A drop in these prices will also have a favourable influence on Turkey. All in all, we too are an oil-importing country. The negative effect will be observed in the slowdown and stagnation growth rates.”
In her evaluation about the consumer trends in Turkey in connection with the global economic situation, Sabanci said: “We are satisfied with the point reached by the Turkish economy during the last 4 to 5 years. We have a young population. Therefore our growth rates must be high. We must produce global solutions to the global problem being experienced in the world.”
