Güler Sabancı, Chairperson and the Managing Director of Sabancı Holding stated that Turkey’s “accession negotiations” with the European Union should continue without interruption and emphasized that Turkey’s journey into the European Union should be insulated from day to day political meddling and squabbles of governments.

Sabancı underlined that ignoring the legal rights that have been long established between Turkey and the European Union with a single stoke of a pen is an unlawful, arbitrary and unacceptable behavior.

Güler Sabancı participated and delivered a speech directed to the Spanish business world in a meeting  held at the Instituto de Empresa (Business School) in Madrid where she was on a visit to attend the inauguration ceremony of the exhibition of “Ottoman Calligraphy from the Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum” at one of Spain's most prestigious museums – the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.
In her speech Güler Sabancı emphasized that continuation of Turkey’s accession negotiations with the European Union without interruption will result in mutual benefits of both parties and asked for the continuation of the support given so far on this by the Spanish business world and government.

Sabancı noted that support should be felt in a more positive and stronger manner in Brussels and she emphasized that Turkey’s journey into Europe should be insulated from day to day meddling and squabbles of the existing governments and continued her speech by saying “This togetherness will result in mutual benefits of both parties in long term. Therefore, temporary governments should not be allowed to take day to day initiatives on this important issue”.

In an answer to a question asked in the meeting Güler Sabancı said “Turkey must continue its reforms. Turkey is obliged to make reforms not only for Europe but also for herself. However, I want to believe in that Europe will also honor its promises in mid and long term”.

In the meeting Güler Sabancı expressed her reaction on the recent developments as follows:

“I support the reaction put forward by TÜSIAD against the unnecessary amendments forced by France to the declaration that will be made on Friday. Ignoring the legal rights that have been long established between Turkey and the European Union with a single stoke of a pen is an unlawful, arbitrary and unacceptable behavior. Ever segment of the community and our friends in the EU should stand against this injustice issue in a more clear and decisive manner”
