The Picasso Exhibition will be displayed at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum of the Sabancı University from Nov. 21, 2005 through March 25, 2006. The 135 works in various mediums by Picasso, one of the most significant artists of the 20th century, embrace all periods of the artist, who led a long life submerged in art. The exhibition consists of works on loan from the Paris and Barcelona Picasso museums and also an unprecedented collection the artist kept to himself all his life and bequeathed to his family; this collection has not been exhibited anywhere before.
Pablo Picasso's grandson Bernard Picasso, who recently visited İstanbul, stated that with its large halls, technical facilities and professional staff, the Sakıp Sabancı Museum has become a world museum of international standards and that he is very happy to share the cultural heritage bequeathed by his grandfather with art lovers in İstanbul. The exhibition will be open to visitors between November 21, 2005 and March 26, 2006. The catalog that is compiled for the exhibition will include writings from John Richardson, Marilyn McCully, and Michael Leiris who are widely-known for their biographic works on Picasso. Also on display at the four-month exhibit will be private correspondence of Picasso, a selection from his family albums, and photographs taken by international photographers. Throughout the stay of the exhibition, documentary movies and conferences will also be organized accompanying the works on display.
