SAKIP SABANCI’S NAME TO BE PERPETUATED IN THE NAME OF A BOULEVARD IN ANTALYA

The Metropolitan Municipality of Antalya, the tourism centre of our country, decided to change the name of Yuzuncu Yil Bulvari, one of the principal boulevards of Antalya, to Sakip Sabancı Bulvari.

The name of Sakip Sabancı who had played a major role in many important events at Antalya will become immortalised on one of the principal boulevards of Antalya.  The once-so-called Yuzuncu Yil Bulvarı, which connects the Antalya City Centre to Konyaalti, was renamed “Sakip Sabancı Bulvari” by a resolution of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality.

The boulevard passing by the Cam Piramit (Glass Pyramid) and the Dilek Sabancı Antalya Sports Hall, to the construction of both of which Sakip Sabancı had made a considerable contribution, was opened at a ceremony attended by Türkan Sabancı, Dilek Sabancı and Sevil Sabancı, as well as Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Menderes Türel, and a great number of guests.

At the ceremony held with a broad participation, the video presentation of sections from the life of Sakip Sabancı put the audience through a range of emotions.  Having delivered a short address at the ceremony, Türkan Sabancı said that Antalya was one of the most favourite cities of late Sakip Sabancı, and qualified the Dilek Sabancı Sports Hall as one having a special meaning being situated on that boulevard.

Underscoring that all Turkish youth should follow the example of Sakip Sabancı, Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Menders Türel said that they felt very happy for naming one of the most busy boulevards of Antalya after late Sakip Sabancı, and added: “It is possible to see the traces of Mr. Sakip Sabancı in many corners of the city.  With this boulevard we wished to perpetuate our respect and love for him.”
