The first stage of the selection process for the world's largest youth summit, the "One Young World", has been completed. One of the official sponsors of the summit is Sabancı Holding. The first stage of selecting which Turkish young people will participate, in which each of the applicants sent a video to facebook.com/sabanciholding offering a solution to the world's problems, has now been completed. From more than 140 candidates, 58 young people have now passed to the second stage. In the second stage, the young candidates will be asked to write an article on one of the issues to be discussed at One Young World 2011. Following that, in the last stage, a group interview will be carried out with candidates. Sabancı Holding will cover the participation costs of the fifteen young people who successfully pass through all three stages, gaining the right to participate in the "One Young World" summit to be held in Zurich from 1-4 September.
This year, it is expected that people such as Kofi Annan, Sir Bob Geldof, Mohammed Yunus and Sabancı Holding's Chairman Güler Sabancı will participate in One Young World, accompanied by over 1500 young people.
In addition to all of the young people attending the One Young World summit having been born in 1993 or later, it is expected that they will be inclined to teamwork, have leadership potential, be interested in global problems and have participated in voluntary activities.
Prominent international leaders such as Sir Bob Geldof, Kofi Annan and Mohammed Yunus also participated in last year's summit which was, for the first time, held in London. This summit gives the world's youth an avenue through which they can express their ideas and solutions, and then have these ideas and solutions heard by states, the business world and the public. Last year, a number of issues were submitted to the "Global Consultation Procedure". Here the world's young people could consider which subjects needed to be discussed immediately as a part of the platform. Those that were selected were discussed over the summit's two days. Last year, Sabancı Holding offered fifteen young people from Turkey the chance to participate in the summit. The summit, also known as the "Young Davos", features participation in proportion to countries' populations, with a total of 1000 young people participating. The summit is also known as the "Young Davos".
