Chair of Sabancı University Founding Board of Trustees Güler Sabancı Released a Message on May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day
“ONCE WE DEFEAT COVID-19 TOGETHER, IT WILL BE A YOUNG PEOPLE’S WORLD”
The Chair of the Sabancı University Founding Board of Trustees, Güler Sabancı, released a message on the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. Celebrating the Turkish youth’s May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, which is considered the day that the foundation of the Turkish Republic was laid and the War of Independence began, Güler Sabancı stressed the trust and belief she had in young people: “Dear young people, the coronavirus has affected your whole lives, as it has for all of us. You are living at a time when your concerns and anxieties are running very high. You are trying to find your way amidst all this distress. Even the joy of the holiday bequeathed to you, you have been forced to experience in a limited way this year. May 19th is the beginning of a great struggle, and the symbol of a rebirth. At the same time, it is the most important date dedicated to you, the youth. 101 years ago, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was a young officer who started the struggle for independence with great resolve. Then as well, our country was under enormous hardship. Today finds us engaged in another historic struggle, this time along with the rest of the world, due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. But whatever the circumstances may be, we know that our biggest security is you young people. We are confident that we will overcome this difficult period, as well, through the strength of the youth, who carry the spirit of 1919 in their hearts, as well as the power of science, which Mustafa Kemal Atatürk called, ‘the truest guide’.”
THE NEW WORLD WILL BE THE WORLD OF YOUNG PEOPLE
Remarking that “the new world that will be waiting for us after we defeat Covid-19 together is the young people’s world,” Güler Sabancı continued her message with the following words:
“You, who have been born into and have grown up with digitalization, are already familiar with the spirit, rules, and formation of the new world. I am confident that with the background you have today, at a time when access to knowledge is so high and technology so advanced, you will be marching forward with sure steps with science lighting your way. You will be the ones who will govern the future and the new world with greatest success. We believe in you. I extend you my sincere congratulations on May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, as I take this opportunity to remember with gratitude and respect Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all his fellow fighters.”
