Mr. Sakıp Sabancı was commemorated
Mr. Sakıp Sabancı, the deceased Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sabancı Holding, was commemorated in the ceremony organised at his grave on the fifteenth anniversary of his death.
The ceremony in the Zincirlikuyu Graveyard was participated in by Mrs. Türkan Sabancı, the wife of the deceased Mr. Sakıp Sabancı, Ms. Sevil Sabancı and Ms. Dr. Dilek Sabancı, his daughters, Ms. Güler Sabancı, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sabancı Holding as well as the executives of the Sabancı Group and his associates. The students of Dilek Sabancı Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Sakıp Sabancı Anatolian High School and Türkan Sabancı School for the Visually Impaired were also present at the ceremony.
Mr. Mehmet Göçmen, the CEO of Sabancı Holding, asserted in his speech during the ceremony, “It has been 15 years today since the death of Mr. Sakıp. Despite the passing years, his memories are still in the minds of us and society. Whomever we ask today, the general opinion about Mr. Sakıp is him being a successful businessman and a model for everyone with his positive attitude all the time, his smiling face, his ambition to work and his sincere and honest personality. For those very reasons, he is still being referred to as the “Sakıp Aga of Turkey”. Mr. Sakıp used to emphasise the importance of working and producing on all occasions. He used to say, “Project your job. Whatever you do as a job, try to be the best at it. It is regardless of your age. It is distinguished by being the best.” With this understanding, we project the Group full steam ahead and target the best all the time.
With his leading exemplary activities in all areas from business life to social development, Mr. Sakıp was a visionary leader who paid attention to new ideas and thought beyond the times. We are working harder than ever in order to keep pace with the requirements of our age as he advised us to do. Mr. Sakıp left us a very precious legacy with his positive energy, perspective on life, farsightedness and leadership. We sustain his legacy in our values and proceed on our way successfully as the Sabancı Group. We promise we will hand over this legacy to the next generations as well.”
