Sabancı Centre is once again turned to orange for violence against women

Sabancı Holding and Akbank this year are again supporting the campaign, organised across the world on a yearly basis, between the dates of November 25th and December 10th under the leadership of the United Nations Secretary General. Within the scope of the campaign, the Sabancı Centre, which is one of the symbolic structures of İstanbul, started to be lit up in orange on the evening of November 25th, the start date of the campaign, in order to draw attention to violence against women and raise awareness in this respect.

The campaign started on November 25th, which is accepted to be the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”, by the United Nations and continues to December 10th, the World Human Rights Day.

Sabancı Holding has been carrying out various activities, through the companies within the structure of the Group and Sabancı Foundation, for a long period of time in order to strengthen its position in society in all areas. Sabancı Holding was the first Turkish company to execute the Charter on Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) of the United Nations in 2011.

Believing that women’s participation in economic, political and social life and education, with equal opportunities, is highly important and they have key roles in the development of the country, Sabancı Holding started the Sabancı Volunteers Programme in 2015 in order to generalise the social responsibility understanding to society through its employees. Thanks to the Sabancı Volunteers Programme, more than 2,000 women were accessed within the scope of the many projects implemented in employment, education, personal development, psycho-social support, health etc. Furthermore, online trainings were provided to about 40,000 employees of the Sabancı Group, with a theme of social gender equality in “Concepts and Definitions”, “Education and Social Gender”, “Business World and Social Gender”, “Violence against Women” and “Forced Marriage at an Early Age”, up to the present day.

Additionally, Akbank, which is among the corporations executing the WEPs, is one of the top corporations to have received a certificate in Turkey with the “Equal Opportunities Model Project” implemented by the Foundation for Women Entrepreneurs (KAGİDER) in collaboration with the World’s Bank. The total rate of employment of women for the last 5 years is 51.4% in Akbank, which has been protecting the balance of women-men for many years and is a leading corporation in terms of women’s employment.
