The " Past Present Istanbul" exhibition is open until November 28
The "Past Present Istanbul" exhibition, which began in September at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum with the support of Sabancı Holding, continues in line with the 'Sabancı of the New Generation' vision. The exhibition features the works of 22 talented young artists who explore their longings, concerns, thoughts, and impressions about Istanbul. The exhibition, open until November 28, presents Istanbul's past and present while inviting visitors to consider its future.
The contemporary perspective of young artists
Sakıp Sabancı Museum Director Dr. Nazan Ölçer stated, "In this exhibition, we have provided young people with a platform. Our belief was that their creative perspectives would create societal awareness, shed light, and give hope. The exhibition 'Past Present Istanbul' is the product of this belief. Through the independent works produced by young artists for this exhibition, we see the inspiration that Istanbul provides to the artists and their mission to depict memories of the city."
Sabancı University lecturer and artist Murat Germen, who contributed to the exhibition with his works on ‘Abandonment,’ said, "Works that are the product of the artists' own will are not all the same, but they talk and complement each other: they care about Istanbul, they seek answers to the questions of 'how can we respond to the emergency call, how can we restore this city's uniqueness?"
The "Past Present Istanbul" exhibition features works by Ahu Akgün, Aslı Narin, Begüm Yamanlar, Beril Ece Güler, Burak Dikilitaş, Canan Erbil, Cemre Yeşil Gönenli, Deniz Ezgi Sürek, Didem Erbaş, Ege Kanar, Eren Sulamacı, Eser Epözdemir, Korhan Karaoysal, Center For Spatial Justice, Murat Germen, Neslihan Koyuncu Bali, Nora Bryne, Onur Özen, Örsan Karakuş, Serkan Taycan, Sıla Ünlü İntepe, Sinan Tuncay, and Zeynep Kaynar. These works, specifically prepared for the site, offer interpretations of urban dynamics in light of themes such as the environment, animal population, urban transformation, social life, historical places, water resources, and transportation.
An exhibition accessible to visually and hearing impaired visitors
The "Past Present Istanbul" exhibition has also been prepared with accessible content for visually and hearing-impaired visitors. As part of accessibility efforts, Everything Accessible experts translated all information boards into sign language for deaf individuals, while video works, installations, and images were recorded for blind individuals. An audio description of the entire exhibition space was also created, from the entrance to the exit. As a result, the exhibition has been visited in groups by institutions such as the Visually Impaired Association, Dem Association, Changing Steps Association, Çekmeköy Center for the Disabled, and by individual visitors with disabilities. At the same time, hundreds of students from various schools visited the "Past Present Istanbul" exhibition with a guide and attended workshops organized as part of the exhibition.
The "Past Present Istanbul" exhibition can be visited until November 28, except on Mondays.
