Making a speech in the ceremony, Ms. Güler Sabancı, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sabancı Holding, noted, “We are together on a very important, historic day both for the Sabancı Group and our country. Welcome to the opening ceremony of the Tufanbeyli Power Plant which is the largest lignite power plant in Turkey constructed by private industry with advanced technology and in an environmentally friendly manner. We thank you all for sharing our excitement and pride by accompanying us today. We express our gratitude to our Dear President. You gave us energy. As you know, energy is a very strategic industry for our country just as in the whole world. Energy plays a great importance in all areas of our lives for supporting our economic and social growth targets and improving the life quality.

In the recent period, there have been very significant developments in the energy industry of our country. Based on the faith in the energy policies of the government and future of Turkey, a total of 100 billion TL investment has made been made in the Turkish energy and natural gas industry over the last 10 years. This investment was made only by private industry without any Treasury guarantee. The substantial part of this investment was made by private industry. Very important steps were taken in the liberalisation of the electricity market under the leadership of our Ministry of Energy and EMRA. I would like to thank them in your presence once more for their efforts and intensive work.

I undoubtedly believe that the steps for liberalisation will further increase and a more competitive and efficient energy market will be functional in the upcoming period as well. As Enerjisa, we made 11 billion USD of investment in energy markets jointly with our partner EON, based on our faith in the future of our country and in the policies for such markets.

A pioneering and leading company of the Turkish electricity industry has appeared. We call it “Energy of Turkey”. We have reached a balanced and highly efficient production portfolio diversified by resources thanks to our capacity, which will increase to 3,700 MW this year. Moreover, we offer electricity energy to 20 million people in 14 cities. We offer innovative products and services to our 9 million customers across Turkey. Our colleagues are working day and night in order to provide a better future of energy to our public who are worthy of the best of everything, the necessities of time and the best technology. Our investments in the domestic sources of energy of our country are of high importance in terms of the growth of the national economy, energy safety and improvement of the current account deficit. You know this better than us. Just like in our Tufanbeyli Power Plant, it is anticipated that the inclusion of our lignite reserves in the economy will reduce the natural gas import invoice of Turkey by 6 billion USD.

I am very pleased to continue this project, which was decided to be invested in before our partnership with E.ON, with the same perspective and determination after our partnership with E.ON. I thank Mr. Dr. Teyysen, the CEO of E.ON, in your presence. They supported the project with the same determination. Support is required for the inclusion of domestic resources in an economy with high technology. The quality of our lignite is low calorie. For this reason, a high amount of investment is required for the realisation of the environmentally friendly power plants equipped with advanced technology which will be opened here today. These projects must necessarily be supported under the current market conditions. We are waiting for new regulations from the competent authorities in this respect as soon as possible.

This power plant has another meaning for the Sabancı Group. Adana is our hometown. Adana has a particular place for us. We were born in this geography. The Sabancı Group grew in this geography. Besides the Tufanbeyli Power Plant with 450 MW capacity, we launched 6 Hydroelectricity Power Plants with a total installed power of about 600 MW only in Adana on the Seyhan and Ceyhan Rivers. We have made over 4 billion USD investment in Adana through Toroslar Distribution and Sale Companies.

We always had a holistic perspective in the areas of investment through social responsibility projects. There are still some ongoing important social responsibility and social development projects in our region. Approximately 1 out of every 10 people is provided with an employment opportunity in Tufanbeyli. We prioritised occupational safety in this employment. The occupational health and safety practices were kept at international standards.

Important steps were taken for the engagement of women in work together with men and for the provision of an occupation for them. The roads were renewed and water channels were opened. 35,000 pine trees and 3,000 nursery trees (apple) were planted. We are trying to complete the ‘Enerjisa Tufanbeyli Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School’ for the upcoming school year.

My Dear President, you know; you always supported this initiative of ours. You travelled to Bandırma with us. We jointly opened the power plant and the Science High School there. I hope the school will be completed for the upcoming period. As Sabancı, we believe that the essence of our job is people and to serve people just like in Enerjisa. We are working with the belief that our public is worthy of the best of everything. Our goal is to develop, ensure high world standards for our people and raise the quality of life accordingly.

As ‘Sabancı of Turkey’, this is our target my Dear President.

We express our gratitude to you on behalf of our Group, our country, Enejisa and Tufanbeyli for your accompanying us on this important and proud day, sharing our excitement, reassuring and supporting us. You gave us strength, spirit and energy. This is an important day and an important acquisition for Turkey. I wish good luck with it for our country and the environment once more.”

Mr. Johannes Teyssen, 50% partner of Sabancı Holding in Enerjisa and the CEO of E.ON, one of the largest private electricity and natural gas companies of the world, stated with respect to the largest private industry lignite power plant in Turkey, constructed in an environmentally friendly manner with the use of the most efficient and advanced technology, “Tufanbeyli Power Plant is an important symbol of our successful partnership with Sabancı Holding in Enerjisa and our faith in the Turkish energy industry. Tufanbeyli Power Plant contributes to the security of supply of electricity both for the customers of Enerjisa and for Turkey by way of including local resources in production. Upon the commissioning of this power plant, the share of the domestic and renewable sources of energy in the production portfolio of Enerjisa increased to 65%.”

The current account deficit can be reduced by 6 billion USD with the inclusion of domestic resources in the economy.

With the Tufanbeyli Power Plant, it is aimed at to bring 6 billion USD into the economy as the natural gas equivalent of the domestic lignite reserve and thus decreasing the foreign dependence of Turkey in the energy sector and its current account deficit, with its important objectives in economic growth and development.

Enerjisa Tufanbeyli Power Plant contributes to the national economy as much as to the regional economy and social development. An employment opportunity was provided to 4,562 people, 1,180 of whom were from the local public in the most intensive period of the construction stage. This indicates that 1 out of every 10 people was employed in Tufanbeyli. Upon the commissioning of the power plant, 1,000 people will be employed. 60% of this employment is anticipated to be selected in the region.
Furthermore, Enerjisa spent about 170 million TL for goods-service procurements and employment of local residents in the region in 3 years. Some projects were implemented for the provision of a job for women and their engagement in labour together with men. In order to green the region, 35,000 pine trees and 3,000 nursery trees were planted. With its ongoing construction, Tufanbeyli Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School is planned to be opened in the school year of 2016-2017.

The investment for the largest lignite power plant of Turkish private industry, equipped with an advanced and environmentally friendly technology was made

Enerjisa Tufanbeyli Power Plant is a power plant where modern technologies are used and the impact of energy production on the environment is minimised, as a reflection of the environmental awareness and sustainability approach of the company. Tufanbeyli Power Plant stands out with its management systems with high standards and occupational safety practices. With its emission values below both the thresholds stipulated by the legislation and the internationally accepted emission values, it was built as an environmentally friendly power plant far beyond a conventional power plant.

The share of domestic and renewable resources in the installed power of Enerjisa in 65%

Carrying out business activities in three lines of business, which are namely electricity generation, distribution and sales and making a total of 11 billion USD investment so far, including the half of it for electricity generation and the other half for electricity distribution, Enerjisa is managing its production portfolio, which will reach 3,700 MW at the end of 2016. Providing electricity energy to 20 million people in 14 cities, Enerjisa offers innovative products and services to its 9 million customers. With the Tufanbeyli Power Plant, the share of the domestic and renewable sources of energy of Enerjisa in the installed power in operation has reached to 65%.
