The Sustainability Report of Sabancı Holding for 2016 was published

MR. MEHMET GÖÇMEN, THE CEO OF SABANCI HOLDING, NOTED “AS THE GROUP, WE WILL CONTINUE TO IMPROVE OUR SUSTAINABILITY UNDERSTANDING THROUGHOUT OUR VALUE CHAIN AND ENHANCE OUR SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION.”

Sabancı Holding published the third sustainability report which analyses the sustainability performance of the activities and projects undertaken by the Group. Being an important communication tool to carry the sustainability performance a step further, the report was prepared on the basis of the GRI Principles, in the light of such commitments of the Group as the UN Notification on the Women Enforcement Principles, principles of the Equality at Work Platform, the United Nations Global Compact etc.

Acting with sensitivity to the environment and society in each business line, and each geography where it carries out its business activities, Sabancı Holding published the third sustainability report analysing the sustainability performance of its activities and projects between the dates of January 1st and December 31st, 2016. Following the first sustainability report, the report was prepared at the core level of GRI G4, on the basis of the international GRI Principles, just as in the second report and took into account the systematic assessment of the delivered feedbacks and opinions. The non-financial performance and activities of the Holding and Group Companies are also contained in the report.

The Sustainability Report prepared by Sabancı Holding, which carries out its business activities in compliance with the UN Notification on Women Enforcement Principles, Equality at Work Platform and United Nations Global Compact of which it is a signatory, clearly reflect the global business manner of the Group and reveals the transparent and accountable management understanding as well.
Stating that the Paris Convention on Climate Change, executed by the governments of 195 countries, in the struggle against climate change at the end of 2015, and the UN Global Sustainable Development Targets (SKH) set for generating a solution for the basic global problems as from 2030, were important milestones which would support the sustainability efforts at the global level, Mr. Mehmet Göçmen, the CEO of Sabancı Holding, made the following statement with regard to the sustainability perspective of the Group. “As the Holding, we are acting as a role model, particularly for all our companies in the Sabancı Group and our stakeholders and the whole business world, with our sustainability oriented approach to such global problems as social injustice, climate change, restricted resources, waste etc. based on the sense of responsibility originating from our corporate global citizen identity. Our leadership in the expansion of the sustainability culture is being increasingly maintained. Sabancı Holding started to be included in the Sustainability Index of BIST as from November 2014. We keep making substantial investments in our activities intended for climate improvement, particularly through our companies with their operations in the field of industry. The exemplary activities of our companies are increasing every passing day. We adopt the introduction of the best practices in our Group to all our companies as our priority.”

Extending his thanks to those who contributed to the activities performed across the Group for improving life and society and for a better world and future, Mr. Göçmen also underlined his belief in the improvement of the sustainability understanding throughout the value chain and the enhancement of the social contribution of the Group.

Determined as the sustainability priorities of the Sabancı Group, the issues of energy and emission management, waste and water management, employee training and development, contribution to social development, occupational health and safety, diversity and equality at work, effective use of natural resources, make up the basis of the reporting study. Besides company specific reporting, where the Group companies evaluate their own sustainability performances, this report has importance on the grounds that it holistically assesses the Holding with an integrative approach and reveals the consolidated performances of the companies operating in different industries.

In parallel with the main strategy identified by Sabancı Holding in the report, all Group companies exchange their experiences and successful applications in this respect with each other. In this sense, the report lays a foundation in order to review the performance of the Group companies collectively and comparatively, determine the prioritised and potential areas in terms of sustainability and development of future strategies.
