The business partners of the Cement Group of Sabancı Holding came together on “Cement Day”
The Cement Group of Sabancı Holding held a “Cement Day” meeting for the first time this year in order to share with their business partners the vision and mission of the cement industry jointly represented by Akçansa and Çimsa. The meeting was attended by Ms. Güler Sabancı, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sabancı Holding, Mr. Cenk Alper, the CEO of Sabancı Holding, Mr. Dr. Tamer Saka, the President of the Cement Group of Sabancı Holding and 400 business partners.
The speechmakers, being specialists in their fields, also came together with business partners within the scope of the “Cement Day”, held in Sabancı Centre. As the Chief Editor of Bloomberg HT, Mr. Gökhan Şen noted in his speech, with the theme of “World and Turkish Economy”, that the key to success under changing economic conditions has been quick adaptation to change and the ability to create synergies. In the last session, Mr. Bekir Ağırdır, the General Director of KONDA, pointed out in his speech covering “Changing Dynamics of the Society”, the pace of change in the cement industry and the necessity of adapting to the change in the cement industry, just as in all industries.
Stating that the highest number of cement production plants was currently owned by the Cement Group of Sabancı Holding in Turkey, Ms. Güler Sabancı, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sabancı Holding, asserted in her opening speech, “As the Sabancı Group, we have been in the cement industry for 50 years. 18% of cement production bears the trademark of Sabancı and we are in a leader position in exports. Now, we are selling the products of our brand to more than 65 countries and competing with world brands. We have exports of higher than 1 billion TL per year. Upon the acquisition of the Bunol Factory in Spain, we aim at becoming a world leader in white cement as a Turkish brand.”
Mr. Cenk Alper, the CEO of Sabancı Holding, stated in his speech on Cement Day that the world had been undergoing a rapid transformation. For the first time in history, over 50% of the world’s population are living in towns, this figure would reach 56% by 2020 and large scale infrastructure and reconstruction projects had provided important opportunities for the development of the cement industry, together with the effect of urban transformation.
Noting that the Cement Group of Sabancı Holding had always been a leader versus the competition thanks to their R&D and innovation investments, products and services and that they had commissioned three new investments last year, Mr. Cenk Alper added, “The mortar used in such valuable projects in our country as the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, 1915 Çanakkale Bridge etc. was also provided by us. We presented the Fine Arts High School, constructed in Çanakkale, to skilful young students. Our social investments have been continued without interruption in the cities where our factories are located. We have provided opportunities for employment in about twenty cities with our factories and grinding plants. We are also going for what is new in cement just like in every line of our business. We will keep growing in the cement industry with the support and strength of our business partners, and thus continue contributing to the development of the Turkish economy.”
Mr. Dr. Tamer Saka, the President of the Cement Group of Sabancı Holding stated the following in his speech, “As Sabancı Holding, we are leaving 50 years behind in the cement industry. The leadership of Akçansa and Çimsa in the industry is an important strength for our Group. Besides this strength being shown by our specialist staff, we steer and lead the industry through innovation and R&D. However, we have a quite important difference from the whole industry. We are supported by the vision and strategic power of the Sabancı Group.”
