Two strategic attempts from Sabancı Holding
Sabancı Holding is putting two important decisions about its investment portfolio into practice. Sabancı Holding won two regions out of four through Enerjisa Üretim as a result of the tender organised by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. In this way, half of the 1000 MW capacity made available for allocation in the tender was included in the portfolio of Enerjisa Üretim. Enerjisa Üretim acquired 500 MW capacity in the second tender project on “Renewable Wind Energy Resource Areas (YEKA)”. With the investment to be made in the Aydın and Çanakkale regions, Enerjisa Üretim has the potential to reach a total capacity of 4.107 MW.
On the other side, the Holding sold Temsa Ulaşım Araçları Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., engaged in the production of buses, midi buses and light trucks, to True Value Capital Partners headquartered in Switzerland. According to the sales agreement, the transfer was performed against the share value of 375 million TL after debt and cash adjustments over the company value of 825 million TL. The transaction covers 49 percent of the shares of Sabancı Holding as well as 52 percent of the shares of other individual investors, notably members of the Sabancı Family.
Mr. Mehmet Göçmen: “We took the first step for a critical transformation”
Reporting that the investment in wind energy production, resulting from the YEKA tender, and the transfer of the shares of Temsa Ulaşım Araçları were critical steps for the transformation of the Group, Mr. Mehmet Göçmen, the CEO of Sabancı Holding, made the following statements:
“The roadmap designed by us as Sabancı Holding is based on high growth with a lean and well-balanced portfolio and investments in the areas creating greater value. Making more investments in the domestic and sustainable capacity of our country in the field of energy is also included in this scope.
With its approximately 3.607 MW of installed power, consisting of 3 natural gas combined cycle plants, 12 hydro-electricity power plants, 3 wind power plants and 1 domestic lignite plant, Enerjisa Üretim is in the position of being the largest private industry electricity generation company. We included substantial extra capacity in our portfolio in line with our growth targets thanks to the YEKA tender, which has been finalised today. This successful result proves our faith and confidence in our country and the future of renewable energy industry once more. Making our country closer to the target of becoming an energy base, this huge project will make a great contribution to the growth targets of our Group and our country. We continue to add value also for the national energy policy of our country thanks to the investments made in domestic and renewable resources for a more sustainable and effective Turkey in terms of energy.”
The decision on Temsa Ulaşım Araçları is a part of our technological and industrial focusing strategy.
Asserting that the sale of Temsa Ulaşım Araçları to True Value Capital Partners, headquartered in Switzerland, was another important step taken in the transformation process of Sabancı Holding, Mr. Mehmet Göçmen added, “Temsa Ulaşım Araçları is one of our brands of which we are proud of all the time, with the achievements of its background of a half century of leadership in the industry. Following this transfer decision, resulting from our technological and industrial focusing strategy, Temsa Ulaşım Araçları will continue its production activities in its plant in Adana under the same trade name. I believe that Temsa Ulaşım Araçları will successfully proceed on its way with the help of its devoted employees and strong organisation.”
