Women’s Empowerment Principles

The United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles consist of guiding principles for the empowerment of the women’s place in the business world and the society. The principles, also know with the sub-title “Equality Means Business”, emphasize the support that the importance that the companies give to man-woman equality provides to the success of their businesses, and support such with real life business experiences and “best practice” examples from all over the world. The principles communicate the correct gender policies that being a good corporate citizen requires, the Global Compact and the roles of the companies in sustainable growth. The “Women’s Empowerment Principles” has been designed with the joint efforts of UN Women’s Agency and the UN Global Compact. The principles were developed with an international process in which a wide participation was ensured and were declared on 2010 World Women’s Day.
